Know Your Champion

How do you respond to as yet unmet hopes, dreams, desires and expectations?

When Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt with the vision to a still unknown "promised land," it is likely none of them thought it would take over a year before he would send spies into that promised land to scout it out. Those spies traveled throughout the land for 40 days and roughly 500 miles with all 12 reporting, "Yep, it’s a great place. It is an amazing location with remarkable fruits and veggies." (OK, it’s not an exact quote, but you get the idea.)

However . . .

The word "however" might be among the most devastating words in the English language. It certainly was for the Hebrew people at that time. You might want to re-read Numbers 13-14. It was their "however" that brought God’s judgment and delayed entrance into their promised land by a generation.

One more story ...

In 1 Samuel 17 we read about David and Goliath. That story begins with, "All the men of Israel, when they saw the man (emphasis mine), fled from him and were much afraid (v. 24 ESV). We also read that the giant Goliath "cursed David by his gods" (v. 43).

The questions before us are, "When life throws us challenges, no matter how big or small, what do we see? What intimidates us?"

Joshua, Caleb, and David saw the human giants. But they also saw God and believed that God was not only bigger than the giants but He was also the One upon whom they could rely to get through those giants to the other side. God honored Joshua, Caleb, and David.

Lesson: Look for God in all circumstances. Know that He is at work for good (Romans 8:28). This must be our mindset for Restore Minnesota as we wrap up 2025 and plunge into the heavy work of 2026. Our champion is Jesus. In all things, let’s be like Joshua, Caleb, and David. Jesus is much bigger than any so-called giant we face or will face.

We currently have 12 active Community Action Teams that impact their own county and other surrounding communities.
