Keeping the Dream Alive

Like many of you, one of my favorite preachers and authors is Dutch Sheets. I know several of you follow him on his daily “Give Him 15” broadcast. Many of you might also have invested, as I have, in his three-volume “Give Him 15 – An Appeal to Heaven” devotional series.

In Volume 1, Dutch recounts for us the familiar biblical account of the young shepherd boy, David, and his astonishment of the lack of response from the Hebrew army to the threats of the Philistine warrior, Goliath of Gath. Goliath was not only a fierce warrior, he was a huge human being. The man was 9 feet, 9 inches tall! Since a person in today’s world who stands over seven feet is considered a “giant,” Goliath, at nearly three feet taller than that, certainly qualifies as a giant above giants.

Not only was Goliath immensely large, he was a fierce warrior. He was the champion of the Philistines. He was the one they would send out as the messenger to their enemies saying, “Send us your best to fight our best. The nation of the loser will be servants to the nation of the victor.” It was a way to minimize the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands.

Goliath wore a helmet made of bronze. (How much did that weigh?) His coat of mail which covered his torso, arms, and part of his legs, was made of several thousand metal chains that moved easily with the body and offered superior protection against major injury. The normal weight of a coat of mail for the average warrior was about 15 pounds. Goliath’s coat of mail weighed in at 125 pounds.

The spear Goliath carried was described as the size of a weaver’s beam. A “normal” weaver’s beam was made of hard wood, usually cedar or oak. It usually measured about 2-3 inches in diameter and was roughly 5-6 feet long. Goliath’s spear was likely larger, making it extremely heavy. The spear’s razor-sharp head of iron weighed 15 pounds. For good measure, Goliath had an armor bearer who went before him.

And then, there was a teenager named David. His assignment was to keep alive God’s dream for Israel. His assignment was to take out the giant Goliath.

As Goliath taunted the army of Israel, David looked beyond. David did not fear the giant because he trusted more in the God who made the giant. His trust in God made the giant appear as a midget. David knew God’s promises to Israel and rested in them. In fact, David was so confident in who God was and the promises God made, that he provided the best biblical example of trash-talking an enemy this side of the NBA. (See 1 Samuel 17:45-47.)

David knew God’s dream for Israel. He also knew it was his job to keep fighting for it.

Here in December of 2024, we in America are preparing for a leadership change in our government. To be clear, Donald Trump is not America’s savior, nor is he America’s king. As our founder’s proclaimed, “We have no king but Jesus!”

Donald Trump is the people’s choice, allowed by God, to take down today’s Goliath, the Swamp. It is his job to lead the nation back to strength, peace, security, and prosperity.

But it is not his job alone.

We, the people of God, are the army of God. It is our job to carry out the assignments that are meant to restore righteousness “in our backyards.”

How will we do that?

We will continue in our mission to:

Assist people in finding God’s calling on their lives and helping them to be equipped to fulfill that calling.

Begin more Community Action Teams (CATs) as God provides the growth throughout Minnesota and the nation. As of this writing, new CATs are being considered in seven new communities. As we go through 2025, we will discover which ones are ready to do the work of restoring righteousness through applied biblical citizenship in their parts of the state.

Work with leaders at the local, state, and federal levels, as they function as Ministers of Elected Office to embody biblical principles calling for righteous leaders (Proverbs 29:2) to lead a righteous nation (Proverbs 14:34).

Replace ineffective leaders - whether it be a governor, school district superintendent or any other employee of the people of Minnesota - with leaders who better represent the traditional biblical morals and values upon which our state and nation was founded.

Collaborate with pastors, churches, and ministry leaders who recognize that our nation's founding was deeply influenced by Christian men and women applying biblical principles to establish its governance.

The American Dream of being “one nation under God” providing freedom, liberty, peace, security, justice, equal opportunity (meaning promotion and growth based on merit and performance), is still alive but there are many “Goliaths” threatening our very foundations.

Let’s show them that together, we are David. And we will continue to fight.

2025, here we come!

A Day of Thanksgiving, Praise, and Prayer at the State Capitol - November 23, 2024

The atmosphere inside the Capitol Rotunda became charged with the joyful presence of over 120 people gathering to sing praises, express thanksgiving, and pray - pray - pray. One of the most exciting things was the noticeable presence of God. Some folks sensed angels. Everyone knew that the Capitol Rotunda was Holy Ground for the time we were there.

After an exhilarating time of praise and worship led by the Sound of the North Praise Band, many MN Legislators, Pastors, and Christian leaders took turns guiding us into praying for our Nation, our State of Minnesota, the Church, the family, and more. With each segment, we would break into small groups of 3 or more people to pray and agree together.
